Siege of the Alamo - Middle Week
The middle week of the siege - February 26 to March 4 - was marked by cold and relative peace, but still some significant events move us forward in the timeline. James Fannin left Goliad to provide reinforcements to the Alamo, but turned back. Travis wrote his final letters: to Sam Houston, to David Ayres, to Jesse Grimes. The Immortal 32 arrived from Gonzales. After receiving intel from some locals, Santa Anna chose the when and how of the final assault.
A thousand thanks to James Boddie for permission to use his fantastic 3D renderings of the Alamo compound. I send immeasurable gratitude to my friend and military historian/artist, Gary Zaboly, for his decades of wonderful work on the Alamo. Without the fabulous art produced by these gentlemen, my telling of the story would be flat and lifeless.
The primary reference book for the details of the siege was that of COL. Alan Huffines. It is a must for any student of Texas history and may be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Noble-Men-Alan-Huffines/dp/157168892
If you're interested in the artillery of the Texas Revolution, Mr. Woodrick's study is instructive: https://www.amazon.com/Cannons-Texas-Revolution-James-Woodrick/dp/1512394459/
