Matilda Houstoun’s Visit To The Republic of Texas

In the 1840s, a wealthy British woman traveled to Texas with her husband aboard their yacht, The Dolphin. Her memories of their travels to the Republic of Texas were published in 1844. The book featured the first lithographic view of Houston, Texas (called the Alpine View of Houston because the European lithographer put some mountains in the background!) Dr. Stephen Hardin brought his first edition copy to the studio for us all to see.
